I wasn't gonna post here till I'd read your manual, but I've been checking out everything I can find on you guys and I doubt there's much in there that'll dissuade me from checkin you guys out.

Yo! My name's Cory and I'm interested in checking out this whole Dagorhir bit. I'm currently in Pennsylvania for college, but over the summer I'm back home in D.C.

I checked out the various sites of people who play this system around my hometown, but out of all of them I liked the Knights Templar the most for their unity, well maintained site, and, well lets just say it, your look.

I am a history/fantasy enthusiast (Mostly history) and have always loved medieval warfare and weaponry. I have some small experience with small unit tactics and fighting (with swords, bows and arrows, and of course my hands).

Personality-wise? I'm a fun-loving guy, you can make me laugh with almost any partially thought out joke, and I love to screw around. I'm open to most ideas and love trying new things.

That being said, when it comes to competition, I don't tend to pull many punches. I'm not too serious of a guy, but I love trying to utterly crush someone, giving it my all. The outcome really doesn't matter too much to me, but I love the feeling of putting all of me on the line to get victory.

If power is a factor, I am 6'0" and semi-athletic (Used to play soccer and run track all year round, now I just screw around with whatever sport catches my attention on campus).

So, if you'd have me this summer, I'd love to come up and beat people with foam covered sticks!

Note: I have no equipment of any kind for this game.

welcome! i am glad that you have shown interest into our group. feel free to ask around, if you have any questions. usually, we will have gear that you can borrow at practices until you get fully acquainted with the rules of Dagorhir. you may want to consult the forums first before buying any garb/gear. luckily for you, it is close to spring, so tons of events/practices are in the future. i hope to have you on our side fighting for the lord. god wills it!

Thanks for the welcomes!

That being said, a few questions:

1. How rough do you guys generally get in battles and/or practices?

2. You guys are into Templar roleplay, but you discourage aggressiveness in a person, does that apply to roleplay as well? I am not a generally aggressive guy, at least in speech, but part of me thinks that going into a templar mindset might change that a bit (Meant for all fun and games, but you never know who's gonna take it the wrong way). Just want your thoughts on this?

3. Would it be strange to wield a shield in your main hand, and your weapon in your off? I don't know, but I like the idea of my people-slammer being on their exposed side when fighting other shielders. I have always considered the shield the most powerful weapon in a shieldman's arsenal.

Probably more questions to come, just is what I've got off the top of my head.

1. it varies from person to person, but as long as you are not punching or kicking people in the face, then you should be fine. that is why we pad everything down.
2. we encourage plenty of aggressiveness on the battlefield(aka never backing away from the fight, always pushing forward, screaming god wills it) what we do not want to see is arguing, name-bashing others on purpose(non jokingly) or anything that would disrupt people from having a good time on or off the battlefield.
3. if that is what you feel comfortable with, then by all means, go for it. as long as you are not doing anything to break the rules of the game(which you are fine so far).

On another note, I do believe I have talked another crazed person (Much as myself) into checking you guys out. He's nearer to where you guys are now, and I managed to coax him past the "ITS LARPING NO" phase into the "Ya, pretty much already looked at it, I'm in" stage.

He's a cool guy, did reenacting before, been my good dnd buddy for a while. I can personally vouch for his awesome. You got room for one more?

definitely! spread the word to all friends. :) just be sure that you and anyone else goes over the rules before trying to attempt anything. it makes weapons and garb building a lot easier that way.

Well, I'll try to see you guys sometime when I'm home before the summer. Now comes the worst part, waiting!

On another note, I'm quite impressed with how active you guys are on this forum, especially considering that you aren't even practicing regularly again yet!

thank you. this is pretty much the only thing to do in the off season lol. i cannot speak for the rest of us, but when it is the off season, i buy a lot of garb/stuff for dag, make weapons, and/or lurk on the threads very frequently.

Alright, so the soonest I could get to an event with you guys would be on my spring break, at the 12th, that cloversdale battle. I'd try to bring my friend as well, if he can work around having to save people from overconfidence and trees.

I'm not around again till the Summer, but is it okay to come to an event first? What would we do there?

coming to a battle first would be fine. well, events usually start with signing in(since it is your first battle, it will be free) but all others cost money. since it is a day battle, i cannot think it would be anymore than 5 dollars. then they would do weapons check, then battle.

Alright, but will you guys supply us with loaner weapons/garb? Help us out and stuff? Being newbies and all, I'm sure we'll need both.

I won't be going, but I'll send some extra gear and garb down.

However, I think you should supply gatorade/powerade/propel/some off brand sports drink and something like granola bars or PB&J sandwiches or something for the group. I mean you should be bringing that stuff for yourselves anyway, just bring a lot extra. Think of it is a rental fee.

All you really need to bring are signed waivers (notarized if under 18,) some non-descript boots and either sweatpants or scrubpants in neutral, earthtones.

I know I will be attending but I don't have too much spare weapons.

Garb is really simple for our unit. Brown pants, white long sleeve shirt, and boots. I have enough extra tabards so just bring a belt. Cloverwhales is a very fun battle but here's a warning for ya. Aratari, the realm we fight in, is the best realm in the entire world (seriously). We have the most top tier fighters and units in one area so you'll be fighting at a level higher than any other realm. You will get killed A LOT. You may or may not get a kill that day. Don't let it discourage you though cause in the end you are getting the best practice in so if you ever make it to a national event (like Ragnarok or Gates of Fire) everyone else will seem a bit too easy.

Alright, I'll see what I can find, but funnily enough I don't have many collarless white shirts or boots, let alone brown pants. I'm sure I can grab some from my fam or friends or something though. I've got belts though! Woohoo!

And I do appreciate the warning, but I already knew that. Why do you think I'm not simply Dagging up where I am for most of the year? Like I said, I like to fully commit myself to winning, regardless of the actual outcome, and what better way to push yourself than by knowing you have nearly no chance at winning? And what sweeter outcome than when you finally win?

Besides, in nomine Patri nostro moriar protegentibus ab impiis hostibus illum!

*cough*I also couldn't find any groups I liked near me*cough*

EDIT: Too much? Heh

It appears my friend has work on the twelfth, so I'm afraid you'll all have to do with just me!

A good idea, thanks!

And, seeing as it is almost time for our meeting, when is the battle on the 12th?

Gah, that early?

This may make procuring supplies rather difficult, as I'm coming in late the night before.

Would it be possible to bring food/drink to another event during the summer? I know its not perfect, but I really don't think I'll be able to gather much in that persuasion before I have to drive up

Dude, don't worry about it, it's cool. Now, I sadly can't make it to the battle cause of work so I'll send up some extra gear with whoever else is coming.

Alright, thanks. Its a shame I won't get to meet ya, but here's to hoping for a good impression on the rest then!

As for the pooling, I'm assuming that was a general offer. Course, if it was for me, I live down in Chevy Chase, which isn't near your starting point, but is just off of the beltway when you're comin down. I'll probably just drive myself, though, since that'd be goin a bit outta the way for you and I'm a complete stranger! :P

Ah, my first battle. Its gonna be a shame to have to wait for the end of the semester to get back into it all after this is over though.
