Hello everyone, I am a guest. I do not have a character name but my name is James. I stumbled across this groups video on youtube and I was instantly intrested. I have not been to any dag event but I have played boffer, infact I have been playing boffer since I was six. I was introduced to it by a friend of the family, he is a knght of the middle kingdom in the SCA. I learned alot about fighting from him, though I believe I need more lessons. Anyway thats not really important. My problem is I have left my group. My warband in michagin has been around for seven years and it is a decent size group. Unfortunatly over those seven years we had our own civil wars. They were pointless, men would fight over who would have power. I was a knight for one of these men (even though I did not like the pointless drama), over the next few years the arguments and fighting were over and they elected me to be the one lord of the warband. It went well for a few years, but now it is going back to the way it was and I do not want any part of it. So I left not to long ago and now I am looking for a group that up holds friendship, brotherhood, loyalty, and fun. It seems that your group the templars are exactly what I have been wanting to join. I have always been facinated by the knights templars history and legend. I was wondering if there is anyone who could help me join the templars please. For it would be an honor to serve under the red cross.

it is great to have another soldier in arms to join the cause! sorry this is kind of late, we just got back from a week long event called ragnarok. seeing as how most of our members are either in maryland or ohio, going to events with us would be strenuous. i cannot officially say whether you can join or not but we judge based off personality over fighting abilities. also, feel free to post your own section in the categories so we can see that they are coming from you, but try not to spam the boards. hopefully we can meet in person and fight along each other! :)

It is an honor to meet you mathias, I have so many questions. Do I send messages under the profile called james, and sorry for the spam. My current home is in livonia michagin, how far of a drive would you think that would be to the templar headquarters in ohio? What was it like to fight at ragnarok? Are people friendly in dagorhir? I think that is all my questions for now. When the day comes that I hopfully join it would be a great honor fighting along side of you as well.

i think it will be better if you use the james profile just so others will have a better idea of who you are. i did not mean to imply that you were spamming, i just wanted to make sure that the appropriate conversations were held in their perspective forums. i am not sure about the exact distance you would be from ohio, so i shall let any of the oh-hai-o people to answer that for you. Ragnarok is by far the best week of my life, hands down. although there is always a few bad eggs, i feel confident when i say that dagorhir is filled with at least 90% of the nicest people you will ever meet. if you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask here. :)

If you dont mind me asking how did you become a sergeant? What is your favorite weopen to use? What is it like to be a templar?
The day I do come to a event should I bring my chain mail, helment, and surcoat?
Not that I need one right away but how do I come up with a character name, do I just look up medieval names and pick one out?
For future preferances, is there anyway to contact members through facebook?
By the way, I have been looking at other Dagorhir group sites and none of them seem to be as organized as this one ,just letting you know that who ever set up this site did an excellent job.

in order to become a sergeant, one must have a great personality and generally fun to be around, must have been to at least 3 battles, own an arming sword, a tabbard, and one other type of weapon. personally, i use sword and board, but i might switch to using a mace and shield. in my personal opinion, i think being in the knights templar is the best you can get compared to other groups. we choose people to be in our group based on personality rather than if they are a good fighter. if you have all of those items currently, then that would be very beneficial to bring, but those, except the surcoat, are not necessary to have right from the start. i have been in the game for a year now i have no armor that i use. it is really about personal preference. another thing that is really personal preference is what to choose for your persona name. for example, i chose Mathias because it is similar to my real name(matthew) and Mathias is also a biblical name. if you look up the knights templar of dagorhir in the groups section of facebook, you can find most of our profiles and add us from there. thank you very much, and that is what we strive to do; to be more of an organized and uniform group. i am sorry this has turned into a mini-essay, but i hope i have sufficiently answered your questions.

You have answered my questions and more, it is a wonderful thing to my opinion that you base people off their personality rather then their skill of arms. For I have met people who were great fighters yet were crual and unforgiving. It is nice to know that there is a group like yours, because if there were more groups that had your values... boffer combat would be a more enjoyable sport.

Thanks. I have a question about making the dagorhir weopons, the cloth, how does it stick? how do I properly make one because I saw some of your videos of battles and the weopons are not like the ones that I have seen. If you could give a sight that would explian how to make the arming swords that you require that would be great. Thanks again for the help.

the proper way of making the cover is buying fabric, sewing it together, then sliding it onto the sword and the duct tape the bottom. you can also use a sock and duct tape the bottom onto it. the sewing looks better, but the socks is faster and easier.

first, you cut out a piece of plywood into the desired shape(for our group it is tear drop or the kite design). then, you screw two straps into the shield in the desired area. next, you put 3 layers of blue foam covering the face of the shield. after that, you put 4 layers of blue foam around the edges. it will really help to sand all the edges and tape them down to prevent premature break down of the foam. finally, cut out fabric for the shield cover and stape, glue, gorilla tape, and/or put a cord through to hold it in place. viola! you have your first shield. :)

Thanks for the information, I shall now find some time to go to the store and buy the desired materials for shield, sword, and flail! I cannot wait for the day I go to my first dagorhir event.

That will be a day to remember!
Speaking of remembering I do not believe I have had a decent size battle in 6 years. The battle was on a hill during the middle of winter, It was the coldest day of that winter and my force was only 12 men. The snow was deep and it was snowing so hard that you could barly see. The force we faced was thirty men and they decided to go up the hill and face us, we made a battle line and battled with them for half an hour. at last they broke and what was left of my men charged down the hill driving them towards the river. It was a slaughter I am surprised no one got frost bite. I probably had to have killed no less then ten of the foe. Even on that day I wore my surcoat imblazed with the holy red cross, GOD WILLS IT!

Is dagorhir a large group of warbands? or is it many warbands that serve under kingdoms? How many warbands that are saracens are there? I hope there is many for my sword must keep busy agianst those who dare fight the cross, god wills it!

Mathias, is it true that a group nammed sage hill hates you guys? I had read that they wanted to fight you guys only because you guys chose to be templars, if all of that is true what is their major mound function! I mean really people need to get off their high horse and relize its only rollplaying fun. Do people give your team problems like that often? :o :!: :?:

if they are seriously offended by our group(like they are not roleplaying and they are seriously pissed at us), they seriously are misled in whatever thoughts they have. we do get a few disputes here and there from people, but we just tell them to come by our camp site and talk about it.usually once we explain to them what we are about and hang out with us for a bit, they see that we are fun people. i can understand if they are role playing, but we are genuinely nice people who only wish to role play the hell out of this game.

tl;dr: haters gonna hate

Sage Hill was yelling at pretty much every camp within earshot. It's just easier for "evil" groups to annoy us and call it roleplaying where to anybody else it would be plain douchebaggery. Thankfully most people are really cool though.

personaly it sounds like sage hills has issues, on the other note it is good to here that many people in dagorhir are cool. How big are the camp sites? How big is the castle and how do you besiege the foe?

GOD WILLS IT!

Hello James. After reading your messages, I just wanted to say hello and it will be an honor to fight beside you some day. It is nice to see that there are people out there who care about the message the Templar stand for. Look forward to meeting you and GOD WILLS IT!!
