the campsites are pretty big(it seemed kind of small though, or we just had a lot of people this year). the castle itself is at its biggest area like 14ft high? at its lowest areas it is like 7 ft. they have 2 side gates and one main gate that can be used to get through. it was a LOT of fun holding off the main gate and holding off the charging foes.

Thank you Genevieve, and it would be an honor to fight along side with you one day as well.

As for the castle... it sounds like it would be somewhat of a difficult job to besiege, (but not that difficult). Is there any siege equipment such as battering rams, ballistas, and catapolts?

Good day my lords! I have a questions regarding archers in dagorhir. How many Templars wield a crossbow or bow? Do the leaders of allied war bands gather before battle to discuss stratagy? If the warbands have a good bit of archers do you or have you ever had organized volleys? Do archers just come to the battle field with just bow and arrow or do theybring sword, sheild, and spear with them as well?

We have one Templar and one friend of the Templar that use crossbows. We have a retiring archer commander, and including her have a number of experienced dedicated archers in addition to the casual every once in a while archers. Some archers only do it, others switch it up. Most veterans will fight with melee weapons then switch to arching when they need a break. As for strategy, it really depends on what the scenario is. Some lend themselves to more advanced strategies, others are simply you go left and we go center and you other guys go right. As with any large group of people, they tend to get pretty stupid (as a whole) and tend to just charge at each other after any sufficient amount of time, with individual units just following whomever they know.

That would make sense, The lager the force the harder it becomes to control it. Especiually when their battle crazed. I have seen it before too many times (not in massive scale though). The larger foce gets over confident and charges the little force not paying attention to the surrounding area, they would fall beneath sword and spear and eventually they would run away. The smaller force would have little to no damage while the larger force would have horific casualties. The larger force would fail because they believe in a style of warfare called individual heroism wich means that they dont fight in formation and they would rather fight as individuals and try to gain a name. The smaller force would fight a warfare that I love, formations. The thing I love about this warfare is that you work as a unit and help the man next to you in shield wall, it is also intimadating to an enemy, most fresh recruits that try to charge a strong shield line stop and cower in fear, then they try to fight and fall victom as easy prey to the spears above and the swords below. By the way I have a steam acount, I have had it for a while now yet I never bothered trying to figure out how to get friends, do you have an account that I can contact on steam? If you do that would be great. I also want to thank you all for your help, the manual that was sent to me was a great help and I cannot wait for the day when I can go to battle, and hopfully it will be along side of you all.

Good day my lords, I come with some unfortunate news and a bit of a confession. I had forgoten to mention that I was not the only one to leave my old group. A small band of brothers in arms left with me and about a month ago they found out that I was trying to join the Templars, they were not mad at me but they were a bit upset because they thought I was leaving them. This led to us acting as a council for the past few weeks, we all agreed that joining dagorhir would be a good option, but not all of them wanted to join the templars. After several dicussions and debates we all came to an agreement. My brothers in arms and I have decided to become a chapter in the north, but I was able to convince them to try to ally ourselves with the templars. I hope you can forgive me but I was out voted and even if I am in a different group I would verry much like to fight along side the templars one day. We are known as the knights brotherhood and we have not decided who will lead yet but I will let you know as soon as possible.

On a seperate note I was wondering if you wanted me to get rid of the templars manual of arms, if so I can get rid of my copy that I had recieved. When we decide who will lead our chapter I will send a group invite to the count so that he can speak to our leader if they want to be allies. It saddens me that I did not get the chance fight along side of you all with the red cross upon my tunic, but I do look foward to your decision on the topic of the allience.

May God go with you at badin hill, for the mighty soldiers of christ will soak the field red with the blood of the evil foe. God wills it!

Well the results are in. The council of the knights brotherhood has elected me to be the new leader. We have not established ourselves as a dagorhir chapter yet but I will do so as soon as possible. Once my small force is organized I will let you know that we are ready for battle. I would like to ask if it is possible for my force to become allies with the templars, if it is then contact me on facebook page or facebook group page. I will send a inveintation to the count so that way he can contact us if he wishes. May God go with you at badins hill.

James, welcome to this amazing game where we all have a blast beating each other up. A couple of comments I have on your thread. The Templar are a great group of guys, I have enjoyed fighting both with and against them, I choose to become a Roman, it was a better fit for me, but it was not an easy choice. Not being a part of the unit does not mean you can't join their side, for a week, a day, a crusade, single battle, or just long enough to wipe the GTG off the field ;).

On the chapter front you might want to contact the other Michigan chapters and see how complicated it would be sign your unit up under one of those chapters, in our area we have a ton of units all fighting under the Aratari chapter name. I imagine you have quite a bit on your plate getting The Knights Brotherhood up and running, so meshing into another chapter might save you some headaches.

Continuing what Frontinus said here are some Michigan chapters:

Militia: Tecumseh (http://northlandsmilitia.tripod.com/)
Eryndor: Toledo, Ohio; Oakland & Monroe Michigan (http://www.eryndor.com/)
Outlanders: Adrian (http://www.angelfire.com/realm3/outlands/index.html)
Eventyre: Grand Haven (http://wmieventyr.tripod.com/dagorhir/index.html)
Antioch: Newport (http://verdite.webs.com/whatisantioch.htm)
Realm of Chaos: Waterford (no website)
Omengard: Alma (http://omengard.tripod.com/)
Welcrie: Traverse City (http://www.freewebs.com/tcdagorhir/)

It is a lot of work to run a unit and even that much more to run a whole chapter. And a lot of these seem to be relatively close by (~1 hour.) I'd host one or two practices a month and go to one of the other realms events. Pick a realm you like and have your unit join it.

I thank you all for your advice and information, I will look up these other chapters and talk with my men about it and see if there is a group that we can agree on. I am verry happy to hear that I can fight along side of the templars no matter what team im on. I can agree to the fact that running a group can be challenging, and I will speak to my men about it. From what I hear chapters can be verry small or verry large, but I think what my men really want to be is a small group of elite fighting men for hire. Is it possible for mercs to form up a small group and have no claim as a chapter? If it is possible I will also speak to my men about that as well. Once again I thank you all for the information and the advice, and I pray that I will meet you all at dagorhir events no matter what the outcome is with my little group. I will contact you if I run into any problems regarding dagorhir chapters or other things of that nature. God wills it.

I would actually recommend joining one or more chapters, or at least going to events they host. It will give your group more fighting experience and it's a great way to meet people who share your love of combat. I like practicing with the Templar--sometimes we've had close to twenty people at our practices--but events where sometimes over a hundred people show up, I think, are more fun. Chapters really have no control over your unit or your unit concept. A Chapter can't dictate what symbols you use, what you put in your Manual of Arms (if you have one), how you rank members, who you accept as members, or how you run your practices.

I don't think you technically have to be a member of a chapter to fight at a chapter's events (you still need to sign in, bring a waiver, have your weapons/armor checked, and pay the fee, if there is one, though). For example, I don't think the Urk Kuldar (an Orc unit) are actually Aratari, but they sometimes go to Aratari events. Though being a member of a chapter really has no effect on how you run your unit. Aratari doesn't have any control of the Knights Templar and its practices. We've never even had a representative on their war council.

Hello and much belated greetings to you Sir James. It does my heart good to hear of a fellow knight with an early start in the ancient art of boffing. My kinsmen and I have all fought with foam weaponry since we could walk too and I offer you a most sincere welcome to Dagorhir. I look forwards to seeing you at Badon Hill! God Wills it!

It is a great honor to meet you vladmir of kiev, I am sorry I did not get the chance to meet any of you at badin hill. I was caught up in life unfortunatly. My kins men and I plan on seeing you all at ragnorock, If you have trouble seeing me look for a man with a red flag with a dog under a crecent moon, this is my families flag of nobility. :)

Once again I am sorry that I did not have the chance to meet you all, but I do intend on fighting along side of the templars on the day god wills it.
