Hello to all Templars,
I am presently going to be using my IRL name for this bit of forum thread. My name is Brandon Siville and I live in the Northwest Ohio area. My present persona in Dagorhir is Jareth Arivin, a half-elf of Eryndor and member of the mercenary unit The Imperial Guard. I've not been active for the past year and a half due to life happening. I am possibly moving out to Altoona, PA and I have been feeling a bit disillusioned with my present mercenary unit as many are, should we say, less than saintly.
I rather enjoy history and am Christian. I have a desire to join you as the Templars fit my personality in the form of having a knightly order to belong to and, for the most part in Dagorhir, being a "good" unit. My skills are okay when it comes to melee and quite good when it comes to archery as I have been shooting a bow since I was five and my skills can be attested to by Pheadrus of the Imperial Guard and Mogg Bonecutter of the orc kul'dar.
I sincerely hope that I am considered for joining as it will allow me to make a better persona for myself. I will, more than likely, be attending this year's Badon Hill.

Hey, how's it going over there. I'm also in northern Ohio. I'm in Wellington, about an hour and a half away. Don't worry about individual fighting prowess too much, as the Templar we're more concerned with fighting as a team. If your goal in Dag is to have a good time and look cool while doing it (win or lose) then you'll likely fit right in. We always have room for more people in our ranks.

So, you normally use a bow huh? I'm mostly a sword and shield person myself, though I have taken my crossbow out for a couple times. What do you tend to use when in melee?

Thanks for the welcome. I presently have a scimitar, what I would consider a short-sword (6'1" with decent reach here.), and a couple of flails. I cycle between all of those weapons for melee. I also have an edhellen kite shield that needs some repair work done (mainly a new grip strap and new bolts/washers.) Granted, all of my weapons need re-covered as they are all in black and purple.

That's pretty cool, I like the curved weapons a lot. The Templar do have a policy of not using flails at events but it's great to practice with them. The policy mostly comes from how flails don't really act like their medieval counterpart would. I had a couple of edhellen things a while back, not many people like edhellen stuff but I think it's alright if just a bit expensive. The shields I had lasted well beyond my expectations and only still need some moderate repair at most to fix.

I agree with you on the edhellen shields. I've got a kite shield that is in need of a little repair. I'm probably going to spend about $50 in total on getting it repaired but this includes a new cover that they are customizing to make my shield a templar shield.

I am rather curious as to where the KToD acquires their uniform surcoats. I have found a place that does an awesome surcoat made of trigger (designed for SCA heavy combat) that I'm considering getting. They have a package consisting of Surcoat and Burnoose cloak for $208. I know that's a lot to spend but its quality stuff and will last a while. Their packages come in cream with black trim and white with scarlet trim. Wondering if one of these packages would be acceptable.

We make them honestly. I happen to be very good with a sewing machine. We have some pretty simple guidelines for how to put them together. When we make them we use cotton duct canvas, it's pretty sturdy stuff. It takes about a yard or so for a tabbard or surcoat. If you had me make it for you it'd cost about 20$ or so, I'd either ship it out or hand it to you in person. The better option would be to make a tabbard yourself, it'd cost you just the materials and some time maybe two hours or so at the most. you could get a yard of duct canvas and a yard of red trigger (using the left over for weapon covers) for somewhere around 8-15$ depending on whether or not you can get it from Walmart. If you have access to a sewing machine it is very cost effective for this hobby.

Also, I personally wouldn't pay to have the shield covered, it's very easy to get a serviceable shield cover using another yard of the previously mentioned canvas and some paint.

My shield would end up needing more than a yard to cover it as its pretty huge. On top of that the shield cover will run me $20 if I don't have it painted and do the painting myself. Also, the rest of that cost I gave was for re-stocking my DAP and for acquiring at roll of gorilla tape. As far as sewing goes I'm hopeless unless it comes to simple hand-stitching repairs. Sewing isn't exactly in my skill set. Calligraphy, however, is and I would be willing to do trade work.

I see, yeah that makes sense for the shield costs. I wouldn't pay the 200 for the cloak and surcoat for sure though. Is there a chance you'll be going to Gates of Fire next month?

Its a long-shot chance. It all depends on when/if I can find work or get the call back from my temp agency here in Ohio. It also depends on when things line up for the possible move to Altoona, PA. Even if i manage to get out there I doubt I'll have the money for Ragnarok. Unless something can come through soon I'm probably going to be here in the Toledo/Bowling Green area of Ohio for a while. I can defiantly say that I will be to Badon Hill. If I'm here for the duration we do have local events for our chapter, eryndor, and I would be attempting to make it to some of them. In my Jareth Arivin unit, the Imperial Guard, we have members coming from as far away as Akron. We also have the Dragoons showing up on a somewhat regular basis.

Also, anyone who would like to get in touch with me in a way other than these boards can reach me at my yahoo mail/messenger of brandon_siville2001

One more thing, do I need to create a new account with another email address if I wished to display the name I have chosen to use for the Templars?
