I don't know much about the SCA, but I'm curious what the differences are between it and Dagorhir. I know about the differences in fighting, but what about all the other aspects such as camping, garb, roleplaying, units & structure, and general atmosphere?

EDIT: I've been reading the Pennsic website and it seems almost identical to Ragnarok (except for the style of fighting of course) just longer, more expensive, and unaccommodating to anyone just wanting to go there for a day (what I was kinda hoping to do :\ )

*having Ragnarok withdrawal*

As far as I know units are well defined and are much more closely scrutinized in the SCA. This leads to people who have titles more often than not being more respected and hated at the same time. Garb is held to a higher standard but can be just as bad as Dag. Also, You are not under any circumstances allowed to wear purple, that color is reserved for the nobility within the structure. I'd say that while the individual people are just as nice like all places it's the bad things that stand out.

This place here while it's focus is on armor is filled mostly with SCA members who frequently discuss things within their game.

There is a big SCA educational event in VA saturday and my roommate and I are thinking about driving down. If anyone else is interested in checking it out you are welcome to catch a ride with us.

SCA is also massive on the political side of roleplaying, ie on the Wiki page they have a legitimate stage with a throne on it for the nobility of each kingdom. Their political structure is complicated, but precise as to historical accuracy. They also use Bokken instead of foam ;_;

Ergo, the armor is pretty serious, like that suit on display in Medeival Times that pretty much everyone in Dag wants to buy. I think they're WAY more focused on role playing than on fighting; their events are veritable Ren fairs.

Interesting SCA video on spears, how applicable to Dagorhir do you think this is?

First off, the double green rules in Dag make his technique useless against an armored opponent. Otherwise it could be useful
